Tuki’s Island Play and Party Center at Loveland Living Planet Aquarium

My family was invited to visit Loveland Living Planet Aquarium’s Tuki’s Island Play and Party Room, located in Salt Lake City, Utah. We were asked to give the facility a try, and received free admission to the aquarium and to Tuki’s Island as compensation for this review. However, all the opinions expressed belong to me, my husband and my children.

The Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is a fabulous facility akin to the Shark Reef in Las Vegas, but without all the mess going to the Strip in Vegas. Some of the features of the aquarium include a 300,000 gallon shark tank, four other themed aquarium halls, and many other fabulous exhibits.

However, one great place to spend some time at the aquarium is Tuki’s Island. As a mom of five young ones, I have learned that sometimes they just need to run out their energy.  Tuki’s Island is a great facility in which to let the kids loose. The room has a fantastic big kid play area, with a motion-sensor gaming system, fabulous tubes and obstacles, and slides all around. There is also a great toddler play area where my smaller children can dash about without me worrying if they are going to be knocked down. Also, there are comfortable lounging chairs for parents to enjoy. And, as a thoughtful touch, Tuki’s Island also has a quiet play area, which includes infant toys, puzzles, and books. We were invited to spend about two hours in this play facility, and my children had so much fun they were really hard to gather so we could go home.

The staff members are fabulous and gracious. They understand kids and make the place fun for the kids to enjoy. They also get to have clean up duty. The play area is cleaned every night – which is also very reassuring. (No, I’m not a germa-phobe, really.)

The entrance fee to Tuki’s Island is $3 per child per 2 two hours, unless the family owns a membership. Then the price is $2 per child per two hours. Supervising adults are free and so are children 2 and under.

One drawback to the room is that, though the play area was designed with children in mind, the restrooms were not. Don’t get me wrong, these restrooms were very nice and clean. And both the men’s and women’s rooms have baby changing stations. But the sink is too high for little children to use. A stool would help the situation greatly. (And I’m really just nitpicking.)

Aside from being a great place to rest while visiting the aquarium exhibits, Tuki’s Island also offers birthday party packages. The packages cost about $300 and include admission to the aquarium for up to 20 people for the day of the party, pizza and drinks – and the paper plates, etc., to serve them on, admission to the play area for party guests, clean up by the aquarium staff, and a reserved room for 90 minutes – with a party host (read: extra set of hands), too.

Tuki’s Island is a fabulous facility. It offers fun for all ages of children and the party option looks amazing.
